[edit] Extra2of2 Burma The Forgotten War

Valiant efforts by British and Empire troops, mainly Indian, left a country that soon gained independence and with it, military dictatorship. The Allied victory (because there was some U.S. involvement) was, whatever the ultimate fate of Burma, 'a truly great feat of arms'. In his giant canvas of battles and Japanese atrocities, of Kohima and the infamous Burma-Thailand railway, Mr Latimer never loses track of individual soldiers and civilians. This not only gives a very human touch to his story of ultimate victory wrenched form initial disaster but provides a structure that holds the vast story together.
