Docudrama which draws on eye witness accounts, contemporary interviews and modern science to tell the true story of the eruption of the island of Krakatoa in 1883. It unleashed a series of terrifying tsunamis, destroyed hundreds of towns and villages and left more than 36,000 people dead. The film follows four stories - Willem Beijerinck as he struggles to save his family, scientist Rogier Verbeek, lighthouse keeper Jacob Schuit and Captain Lindeman, whose steamship is trapped at sea.
