[edit] Information

Wildlife presenter Steve Backshall tracks down 60 of the world's deadliest animals. Childrens wildlife series shown on CBBC, BBC1/One HD and BBC HD.

[edit] Baja California, Mexico

On a trip to Mexico, Steve Backshall takes to the water in search of a monster of the deep seas. It is so potentially dangerous he has to wear chain mail like a medieval knight in case it rips him to shreds. He then takes to the deadliest desert on the planet searching for the biggest wasp in the world, before setting off in search of his favourite deadly animal - snakes, and venomous ones at that.

[edit] British Columbia

Steve and his team take to the waters of British Columbia in search of more monsters of the deep seas. Steve tracks the weirdest looking fish on the planet, armed with chisel-like teeth, comes face to face with a giant Pacific octopus and gets the surprise of his life when he goes kayaking with killer whales.

[edit] Vancouver

Steve Backshall takes to the icy waters of British Columbia in search of the biggest, baddest sea lion in the world. After an unexpected encounter with a killer whale, he heads back to the city on the trail of one smelly contender before trying his hand at becoming a raccoon. Despite immense strength, powerful claws and a fearsome reputation in Canada, there's a surprise in store when Steve tracks down the infamous black bear.

[edit] Costa Rica 1

Steve and the crew are thrown deep in the steamy rainforests of Costa Rica. They are on a mission to find the largest cat in South America, the awesome jaguar. But the jungle is teeming with wildlife - from venomous snakes to squealing frogs - so there is plenty to see along the way. Even after dark the forest is alive with deadly creatures, and down by the river Steve has a battle with a giant, reptilian predator.

[edit] Costa Rica 2

Steve and the team are in the jungles of Costa Rica. On his search for the Deadly 60, Steve gets strangled by a giant boa, is struck dumb by the strike speed of a viper and plays hide-and-seek with a deadly bushmaster. As if that wasn't enough, he gets hands-on with a poisonous frog - and nearly gets a nip from a blood-sucking vampire!

[edit] Panama

Panama is home to one of the largest and most impressive birds of prey in the world - the harpy eagle. But to track it down, Steve and the crew have to trek into a remote part of the Darien jungle. Along the way Steve chases a deadly racer snake downriver, and even faces his fears to handle some giant bullet ants.

[edit] Mozambique

Deep in the waters of the Indian Ocean, Steve goes in search of the biggest fish in the sea, so big that it can weigh as much as a double decker bus. He also goes looking for the fastest fish on the planet, but travelling at speeds of 80 miles per hour, Steve's got his work cut out. After an encounter with a starfish that kills coral with stomach juices, the crew's nerves are tested to their limit when a truly scary animal turns up uninvited at their digs back on dry land.

[edit] South Africa

With his crew in tow, Steve Backshall is on a mission to find all the animals that most Africans spend as much time as possible avoiding. After swimming in shark-infested waters, Steve abseils down to a nest of killer bees with a painful outcome. An eerily close encounter with a ragged tooth shark is followed by getting airborne with the awesome black eagle. Unlike Rourke the eagle, Steve comes down to earth with a bump.

[edit] Namibia 1

Steve and the crew turn up the heat in Namibia, searching for deadly animals in one of the hottest places on the planet! A clever camera brings him right up close to a tiny but mighty spider, while sheer sweat and persistence pay off as the team tracks down one of the most elusive and deadly reptiles in the dunes. Barely stopping for breath, Steve has a close encounter with a vulture, which leads the team to try a wacky experiment with gruesome results.

[edit] Namibia 2

Steve is hot on the trail of Africa's big cats. He dons a camouflage suit to beat a leopard at its own game by hunting his crew, but it proves to be a lot harder than it looks. Nevertheless a once-in-a-lifetime experience gets him closer to a wild leopard than even he'd dare hope. After an eerie night sleeping out under the stars, Steve catches up with a pride of lions and witnesses them hunting right before his eyes.

[edit] Madagascar

Steve and the team embark on a truly incredible adventure across the vast island of Madagascar. Many of the creatures they meet cannot be found anywhere else in the world. From gremlin-like aye-ayes to Madagascar's most ferocious carnivore, Steve has some unique encounters as he searches for contenders for the Deadly 60.

[edit] Uganda

Steve is in Uganda, getting up close and personal with some of our closest relatives - the primates. He meets gorillas in the mountains and squabbling baboons on the savannah. He even has a dawn encounter with chimps in the forest.

[edit] Thailand

In Thailand, Steve comes face-to-face with the longest venomous snake in the world, the king cobra, whose bite could kill an elephant. He meets two of Thailand's killer cats for a deadly cat face-off, but which one will make it onto his list? Finally, he dons his climbing gear to scale a building in Bangkok to illustrate the abilities of one of the world's best climbers, who is deadly with it.

[edit] Philippines 1

Steve is in the Philippines for more deadly encounters. He goes nose-to-nose with a living dinosaur, meets an arachnid with legs four times longer than its body and has a night-time jungle encounter with a predator who has more armour than Iron Man.

[edit] Philippines 2

Steve dives in the beautiful waters of the Philippines to check out a shark that spends most of the day 550 metres below the surface. He swims with one of the deadliest snakes on the planet and searches the jungle for a tarsier, a lethal predator who eats his victims head first.

[edit] Romania

Steve Backshall takes a close look at dogs and their distant relatives, wolves. He heads to the Arctic Circle where a pack of Huskies show him a thing or two about stamina. Steve is then rescued by an avalanche dog whose incredible nose sniffs him out from deep beneath the snow. Finally he comes face to face with one of his favourite animals, the Wolf.

[edit] Norway

Steve and his trusty team head to the frozen north of Norway. He follows the tracks of Europe's largest cat, the elusive lynx, up into the hills in the hope of seeing one, and gets a little nervous when he meets some in captivity. Arctic foxes and musk oxen are also on the menu in this deadly snowy episode.

[edit] United Kingdom

Steve and the Deadly 60 team are on their home turf, the UK. The adventure begins in a lake as Steve dives in to track down a deadly monster lurking in its depths. Then it's off to a wind tunnel to check out how eagles fly. Finally, Steve builds a giant web to demonstrate just what lethal killers spiders can be.

[edit] Argentina

Steve and the crew turn cowboy as they head for the marshlands of Argentina. There's a nasty surprise in store for Steve as he searches for an anaconda. Undeterred, he swims in piranha-infested waters to find out more about these iconic killers.

[edit] Peru

Steve and the crew have almost come to the end of their journey to find the Deadly 60. They are in Peru, searching for elusive giant river otters. Steve has a chance encounter with the largest reptile in South America, and nothing prepares him for the animal that takes the last place on the Deadly 60 list!

[edit] Making of

Ever wondered how Deadly 60 gets made? This programme goes behind the scenes to see just how the series is filmed. From where the team eat and sleep to the extreme measures they have to take as they travel the world filming some of its deadliest predators, this special tells all.

[edit] Tracks and Signs

Steve demonstrates how reading the tracks and signs left by an animal can lead to fantastic encounters. Lions, octopuses and badgers all feature in this special as Steve and his trusty crew travel the planet reading the signs they leave behind.

[edit] Inside Deadly 60

Steve and the team are at the Museum of Natural History in Oxford. Steve takes a look inside some of the top predators featured on Deadly 60 to find out what makes them so deadly. The skeletons and jaws of crocodiles, snakes and some of the most lethal sharks on the planet hold the key as to their deadly prowess.

[edit] Venom

Steve Backshall takes a really close look at venom. He is spat at and bitten by scorpions, spiders and snakes, all in his quest to prove that venom is one of the most lethal weapons of the animal kingdom.

[edit] Unseen Special

This Deadly 60 special is a chance for Steve to show you all of the contenders that didn't quite make it onto the Deadly 60 list. We follow Steve as he travels across the world discovering animals with deadly stings, crushing jaws and razor sharp claws.

[edit] Endangered Special

In a Deadly 60 special, Steve Backshall looks at animals that are both deadly and endangered. Threatened with habitat loss, Steve explores why mighty animals like the chimpanzee, mountain gorilla and harpy eagle are so few in number, while in Madagascar he meets the most bizarre animal he's ever seen, the aye-aye.
