[edit] Information

Britain's natural environment has been shaped by man for millenia and yet it still retains an astonishing diversity of wildlife. Filmed over three years by the award-winning BBC Natural History Unit Living Britain is an intimate but contemporary portrait of the diverse and beautiful landscapes and charismatic wildlife of a remarkable corner of the world.

[edit] Deepest Winter

In the Scottish highlands the majestic golden eagle surveys his icy kingdom, whilst further south vast flocks of wading birds find refuge on Britain's extensive marshes and estuaries.

[edit] Spring

Capercailie and black grouse perform their curious courtship rituals, whilst in the New Forest badgers have their cubs.

[edit] Early Summer

A time of blossom and mayflies. Kingfishers teach their fledglings how to fish. By Midsummer Day the hectic breeding season is almost over.

[edit] High Summer

Chalk downland and urban wastelands bloom -- and as the sea warms, basking sharks and whales visit Britain's coastline.

[edit] Autumn

A season of glorious colour, dramatic wildlife activity, and violent storms. Wild geese arrive. Deer bellow rutting challenges. Salmon leap waterfalls and fungi erupt from the ground. A time of harvest festivals and Halloween.

[edit] Winter Reflections

Throughout Britain bonfires burn and fireworks illuminate the autumn sky as Guy Fawkes Night heralds the onset of winter. As we approach the end of another year its time to reflect on the past and future of Living Britain.
