Why are mothers in El Salvador being charged with homicide or manslaughter after losing a child? El Salvador’s abortion laws mean pregnant women can be charged with murdering their baby if they have an unsuccessful birth, facing severe jail terms and social stigma. Abortions are completely illegal,even if the pregnancy will put the woman's health or life at risk. Dateline investigates the country’s extreme anti-abortion laws and finds local women fighting to have their cases heard and see's what life is like for the victims of these laws, and their families.
