For close to 200 years, one carol has occupied the heart of Christmas celebrations across the world. Join renowned actor Simon Callow as he uncovers the moving origins of 'Silent Night', visiting the city where the famed carol had its origins.The story of Silent Night is fascinating: the carol was created in less than a day and sung for the first time at midnight mass in St Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria.The assistant pastor, Joseph Mohr, who wrote the words, performed it with the choir director, Franz Xaver Gruber, accompanied by choir and Mohr’s guitar.
