Tokyo Eye 2020: The Complete Guide to Tokyo Station Tokyo Station Marunouchi Station Building Originally built in 1914, Tokyo Station is sometimes referred to as the "gateway to Tokyo." For roughly 60 years, the station building had a makeshift roof and only two floors, but its 2012 restoration brought back the third floor and octagonal dome roof. A new plaza in front of the station was completed in 2017. Station building includes a hotel and gallery.
