Richard E Grant explores the life of Agatha Christie. Marking 100 years since the first appearance of Hercule Poirot, Grant seeks to unravel the events that inspired her novels. A century ago, Agatha Christie's lovable and fastidious Belgian detective Hercule Poirot first exercised his little grey cells to solve a dastardly crime in the 1921 novel "The Mysterious Affair at Styles". Now a unique new ITV documentary, "Agatha & Poirot: Partners in Crime" explores our endless fascination with the dapper sleuth and his remarkable creator, who became known as the "Queen of Crime". Marking 100 years since the first literary appearance of Christie's illustrious super sleuth, "Agatha & Poirot" chart the origins and history of Hercule Poirot and trace the inimitable Belgian detective's lasting impact upon popular culture. Programme celebrates the centenary of Poirot's first appearance in print in the UK in "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" and explores the extraordinary impact he has had on our popular culture by looking at some of his most famous cases, from "Murder on the Orient Express" to "Death on the Nile". The documentary also examines how Christie came to create Poirot, how she felt about him and how her own life inspired some of her most celebrated novels. Presented by Richard E Grant, and featuring contributions from family and famous fans, "Agatha & Poirot" explores the life and personal experiences of Christie, which inspired the plots, characters and locations of her literary masterpieces. Viewers will visit Christie's Devon home of Greenway with great grandson James Prichard; experience luxury train travel with Joanna Page; explore Poirot's popularity across the big and small screens with Stephen Fry; and enjoy Christie's love of luxury food with chef Marcus Wareing. "Agatha & Poirot" features an all-star cast of Christie enthusiasts and experts, including actors Zoe Wanamaker, Hugh Fraser, Amanda Abbington, Lesley Joseph, Danny John Jules and Caroline Quentin.
