[edit] Information

As tensions rose between the United States and Cuba, Castro began to nationalize important industries within Cuba. The premium tobacco industry was among those nationalized and many traditional Cuban tobacco-growing families lost everything and had to flee to the US, Nicaragua, the Dominican Republic, and Honduras to rebuild. Hand Rolled follows those families on a decades-long struggle to reestablish themselves in uncertain economies throughout Latin America.
