[edit] Information

Stephen Tompkinson and hot air balloon pilot Robin Batchelor embark on the journey of a lifetime across the African continent. They experience the amazing abundance and diversity of wildlife and explore the relationship between Africa's game and its people.

[edit] Part 1

Setting off in Tanzania, they travel over the Ngorongoro Crater, where one of the world's densest concentrations of game inhabits an enormous extinct volcanic crater. Landing in the Serengeti, Stephen shadows a local vet on his rounds treating the wildlife of the famous national park. Then he takes to the air again, this time heading westward into the dense forests of Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park in search of one of the planet's most awe-inspiring animals - the mountain gorilla.

[edit] Part 2

Stephen Tompkinson goes deep into northern Rwanda's Volcanoes National Park in search of the mighty mountain gorilla and meets local Pygmy tribesmen who are changing from poachers into gamekeepers. His next stop is Kafue National Park in Zambia. Passing over Victoria Falls, he visits Shiwa Ng'andu, which was built by Sir Stewart Gore-Browne in the early 1900s and looks like an English country house complete with lawns and rosebeds. Then he heads to Botswana and the Okavango Delta.

[edit] Part 3

Final leg of Stephen Tompkinson's epic balloon ride across Africa. Stephen is in Botswana, where he helps catch a crocodile using a stick with a wire on the end. Back in the balloon, he heads for the last country on his journey, Namibia, where he meets elephant expert Keith Leggatt to track a lone male of the species. Later a Namibian bushman shows Stephen that the desert is actually teeming with wildlife.
