[edit] Information

Air Ambulance E.R. Time is of the essence in this full-throttle documentary charting the extraordinary endeavours of Britain's emergency helicopter medical services. Cameras capture all the action as 'chopper doctor' flying teams respond to various crisis calls, employing cutting-edge techniques honed in the world's toughest warzones to save the lives of people up and down the country.

[edit] South Shields

Setting the pace for what's to come, the series kicks off in South Shields when a doc's trauma skills are put to the test by a dramatic accident. Also requiring urgent assistance are a cyclist with a life-threatening head injury in Oxford, and a speedway racer who is in a bad way after flying off the track at 80mph.

[edit] Lake District

A team races to the aid of a mother and daughter involved in a high-speed motorcycle crash, before zipping off to the Lake District to help a cyclist hit by a car. Timing is everything, too, when the crew turn their attention to a four-year-old girl with a serious leg fracture.

[edit] Oxfordshire

The pressure is on as teams race to the scene of a traffic accident in rural Oxfordshire where a family car has left the country road and plummeted 30ft into a ravine. Concern also grows for a jockey who has fallen off her horse and suffered an open leg fracture that requires a dose of painkillers three times the amount that would normally be administered to an injured British solider. Finally, the search is on for a lost paraglider - yielding surprising results.

[edit] Darlington

The heat is on during the warmest day of the year as the team helps a motorcyclist who finds himself underneath a minibus filled with partygoers in fancy dress. Attention then turns to a 16-year-old youth who has suffered a major head injury after falling from his bike, and in Darlington, Co Durham, a man needs to be extracted from his car following a collision. There is also some confusion over an accident said to have involved a wooden post.

[edit] Durham

The team is called to a building site to treat a roofer who has picked up a nasty leg fracture in a fall. Alternative transport is required to reach a 16-year-old asthmatic struggling to breathe on a Lake District mountainside, and a cyclist involved in a collision in Durham needs medical assistance.

[edit] Isle of Wight

Fly-on-the-wall documentary following the work of Britain's emergency helicopter medical services. It's all hands on deck to save the life of an 11-year-old boy who has been knocked down by a car on the Isle of Wight, resulting in a serious head injury. A tough granny proves remarkably calm about her extreme ankle break, a bit of laughing gas helps take away the pain for a paintballer injured at an activity centre and the clock is ticking when a brewing thunderstorm threatens a callout to a motorcyclist trapped in a ditch.
