[edit] Information

The Battle of Britain: 3 Days That Saved the Nation: Series 1 In June 1940, a long hot summer lay ahead as a battle for national survival was fought in the skies over Britain. The programme explores the phases of the Battle of Britain and how it came to an end. Dan Snow and Kate Humble present a three-part guide to the critical aerial battle that changed the course of the Second World War, featuring personal stories of pilots, ground crews and members of the public.

[edit] The Few

The first episode tracks the first skirmishes of the three-day battle, as the Luftwaffe began an all-out assault to rid Britain of air power prior to a land invasion. The first skirmishes were being tracked by a 19-year-old WAAF member in a secret London bunker, and her secret diaries provide fresh insight into the strategies behind the aerial combat.

[edit] The Darkest Hour

Dan Snow and Kate Humble tell the story of August 30, 1940 - the RAF's most intense day of fighting across the whole battle, as Britain's airfields came under severe threat. Young armourer Ronald Pountain reported for another day of nerve-wracking duty, and seven decades later he can still recall the anxious wait for his pilots to return from their terrifying encounters with the enemy.

[edit] The Blitz

Dan Snow and Kate Humble conclude their guide to aerial battle that changed the course of the Second World War. Here they tell the story of September 15, 1940 - the most decisive day in the battle for the RAF. With Hitler's plan to invade just days away, Britain's pilots had a final chance to save the nation against the Luftwaffe.
