Summer holiday time, the rush to the sea. In 1936, for the first time ever, the Popular Front introduced two weeks' paid holiday entitlement for all French people. And so began a long love affair with the seaside. Eighty years ago, when this law was introduced, having a holiday was by no means automatic.
