[edit] Information

Following the exploits of Howard Greenberg, a man who practises criminal law like you have never seen it before. From his office in Brooklyn, Howard wages 'war' against the government. He believes that the state is out to screw over its citizens and that the power of advocacy can, in his expert hands, save his clients from this tyranny.

[edit] War is Waged on Many Fronts

This episode discovers that Howard will go to any lengths to preserve the liberty of the people he represents. From helping convince a client to take a plea deal, dreaming up a fictitious courtroom diary clash to keep a defendant out of prison, or changing his trousers in the street outside the Supreme Court, it is all part of the style and strategy that goes with Howard's mantra - 'winning isn't everything, it's the only thing'. The two cases in this episode demonstrate that, for Howard, winning can take many forms.

[edit] Belief Trumps Everything

In this episode we discover that for Howard 'belief trumps everything' when it comes to fighting a case, as he takes on a new defendant who is in deep trouble. 27-year-old Tiffany has never been arrested before. She has not even had a speeding ticket. But now she is accused of murder - and only Howard stands between her and a possible life sentence.

[edit] Mr Popular

According to Howard, no-one becomes a defence attorney to win a popularity contest. The truth behind that statement becomes all too apparent as he takes on a heavy, emotionally charged murder trial. The case of the 'Brooklyn Ripper' is big news across New York, with almost daily bulletins giving airtime to the victims' families as they fight for justice. In the eyes of the press, Howard's client is already a guilty man. Amidst this clamour, his feels like a lone voice speaking up for the defendant.

[edit] I'll Rest when the Enemy Rests

It is summer in New York and tensions are rising in the Greenberg Law office. As the series draws to a close, the practice is overrun with work. Cases pile up, court dates need attending and Howard has another major trial on the horizon. As the final episode begins, Howard and junior attorney Jonathan are at loggerheads over this ever-mounting work schedule. Jonathan feels that Howard makes unreasonable demands on his time. He is also under pressure from his girlfriend over his work-life balance. So it is no surprise that tempers flare when Howard lectures Jonathan that he needs to be more flexible. Lena, as ever, is caught in the middle.
