This essential ethnographic film goes deep into the Amazon rainforests of Brazil to find critical proof of an indigenous tribe still dwelling there outside modern society. The rare evidence of their existence presented masterfully in the film serves as perhaps the only legal barrier saving what remains of these rainforests from destruction.This chronicle of an expedition follows the footsteps of two of the three remaining members Piripkura of who live as nomads in the rainforests of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso. Encircled by farms and sawmills, this forested area is coveted by business interests and aggressively, even violently, pursued.The lush rainforests can remain in protected status if it can be established that the two Piripkura men, Pakyî and Tamandua, are in fact still living there, and maintaining a nomadic way of life rooted in their tribe's ancient traditions.Piripkura illuminates the tragedies befalling indigenous Amazon people, and the systematic violence perpetrated against them that remains menacingly present.
