This is the footage from the 1910-1912 South Pole expedition led by the Norwegian explorer Roald Amundsen (1872-1928). Through this expedition, Amundsen won the honour of conquering the South Pole - after a race involving several other explorers. The film was seen for the first time in 1912 and it was used by Amundsen for his traveling lectures. The film was added to UNESCO's Memory of the World register in 2005 and is one of the few films to be listed in it
