Simon Schama speaks to some of the world's most influential contemporary artists and activists. Chapter 1: Ai Weiwei Ai Weiwei discusses his journey to being a voice for the downtrodden, and how his father was both a key figure in the Communist rise to power, only to fall foul of the state during the Cultural Revolution. Chapter 2: Nadya Tolokonnikova Simon Schama speaks to Pussy Riot's Nadya Tolokonnikova about the challenges of political activism in Vladimir Putin's Russia, and how she sees herself and her organisation as part of a long tradition of radical counterculture rebels in her country. Nadya reflects on the key moments in her life and career, from the early days of her guerrilla performance art, to the global notoriety of Pussy Riot, and to her brutal imprisonment. Chapter 3: Margaret Atwood Simon Schama speaks to Margaret Atwood, who reflects on the continuing rise in prominence of the Evangelical Christian right-wing in the US, an issue that originally inspired The Handmaid's Tale. Atwood also discusses her unconventional childhood, and how it has inspired her cautionary tales about the state of mankind and the planet.
