[edit] Information

Some 27 years after his premature death in London, at the age of 27, Jimi Hendrix has become one of rock's most biggest and most enduring icons, a legendary musician whose recording legacy has continued to influence successive generations of aspiring guitarists. During his all-too-brief recording career, Hendrix released just four albums, including 1967's Are You Experienced and Axis Bold As Love, and 1970's Band Of Gypsys, all of which have since become recognised as important milestones in history of rock music. However, the release of his 1968 double-album, Electric Ladyland, represented a watershed in his flourishing career, and is now recognised as landmark in rock music. Originally produced in 1997 as the premiere episode the acclaimed Classic Albums television series, the story of Electric Ladyland is told here in words, music, rare archive film footage and from a contemporary diary kept by one of Hendrix's employees. Among those contributing are Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell who worked with Jimi Hendrix in the Jimi Hendrix Experience, legendary singer and keyboard virtuoso Steve Winwood, Eddie Kramer who engineered the Electric Ladyland studio sessions and, in his last interview, Chas Chandler who was responsible for nurturing Hendrix's early success and who managed his career. Complete with fascinating footage of Hendrix and an equally enthralling musical soundtrack that includes All Along The Watchtower, Still Raining, Still Dreaming, Gypsy Eyes, Crosstown Traffic, Voodoo Chile and House Burning Down, this electrifying programme provides a revealing insight into the life, work and musical genius of a rock music legend.
