Alan Cumming, who made his name in Sam Mendes's Broadway production of Cabaret, sets out to discover the stories and people behind the Oscar-winning movie and the original book on which it was based. Alan meets many of those involved with the film, including its star Liza Minnelli, and talks to cabaret artists, among them acclaimed performer Ute Lemper. He uncovers the story of the real life Sally Bowles and reveals the tragic fate many of the cabaret artists suffered at the hands of the Nazis.
