[edit] Information

A documentary on the winter 2005 village council elections in Malu Village, a Developing District of Shiyan City in Hubei Province. Preceding the elections, villagers had used extreme methods, including suicide and taking over the governmental administration offices, to protest injustices in the confiscation and distribution of land. The turbulence required intervention by China's Prime Minister and led to governmental shakeups. This documentary looks at the how the electoral process helped restore order.
