[edit] Information

Tom’s Fantastic Floating Home The mind of inventor Tom Lawton is a busy place. He's invented skate bikes, bubble cameras, wind-powered lighting systems and recordable alarm clocks. Now Tom's exploring new ways of living, from cooking and sleeping to entertaining, as he turns an old boat into a dream home. Each invention aims to solve an everyday problem. How can you get a perfect night's sleep? How do you turn a living room into an outside space? How do you water your plants when you're on holiday? Tom takes inspiration from his six-year-old son Barney, and travels round the country meeting like-minded inventors and experiencing other extraordinary examples of engineering.

[edit] Shelter and Security

Tom tackles the challenges of shelter and security, coming up with an 'all seeing eye' to ward off potential intruders, an armadillo-inspired retractable roof, and a grow & go garden that maintains itself.

[edit] Cooking and Eating

Tom focusses his fertile imagination on the way we cook and eat. Taking inspiration from fellow inventors and feats of engineering, he designs some space-saving pop-up furniture, an indoor-outdoor barbecue to combat the variable British weather, and an aquabike that can be used on land and water.

[edit] Rest and Relaxation

Tom works tirelessly to complete his fantastic floating home before taking it for a maiden voyage down river, re-imagining the settee as a star-gazing sofa, bringing light below deck with a fibre optic solar jellyfish, and making an inflatable bed out of tennis balls.
