[edit] Information

After the great success of the SPIEGEL TV production "The Third Reich in Color", Michael Kloft went investigating around the world again and discovered new color films, mostly unreleased to date, from the days of the Second World War. The recovered material was so extensive that SPIEGEL TV decided to produce another two-part documentary. The first production, "The Third Reich in Color", focused primarily on the everyday life in Nazi Germany and the war impressions of soldiers, while the actual warfare was only documented marginally. "World War II in Color" recounts the course of the war, falling back upon sensational color footage from German, British and American archives. This includes exclusive 35mm-color footage of the war in France in 1940, unknown pictures of the Norway campaign and impressive scenes of the advance in the Soviet Union in 1941/42. Unreleased private films of the war at the home front document, among other things, the effects of the Allies' air raids. The insanity of this war becomes frighteningly vivid in these color pictures, the impact of which is far greater than the usual narrations and recollections of people who had taken part in it.
