[edit] Information

In 1998, pop star George Michael was arrested for a lewd act in a Los Angeles public toilet. This is the story of how his response to a potentially career-crushing event changed history.

[edit] Chapter 1:

How the singer's outing was a landmark moment in gay politics, with a potential career-ending scandal being averted by seizing control of the media narrative. The first episode looks back at the singer's early career, and unearths the reasons he felt compelled to remain in the closet in the first place. Featuring contributions from former manager Simon Napier-Bell and Rev Richard Coles, who recalls his own experiences of being a gay man and a pop star in the 1980s.

[edit] Chapter 2:

How George Michael announced his sexuality to the world in 1998 and the events that led to it including losing his partner to an Aids-related illness, being arrested for committing a lewd act in a public toilet and threats from the News of the World to publish pictures of him cruising in a park. Will Young shares how the events gave hope to young gay men at the time.
