[edit] Information

From pristine surf beaches and secluded coastal hideaways to plunging limestone cliffs and tragic shipwrecks, the Great Ocean Road reveals new and exciting panoramas around every curve. Best known as the winding byway to the iconic Twelve Apostles, the famous road hugs the margin of the wild Southern Ocean and passes through a landscape of great diversity. Visitors see quiet seaside towns, neat farmlands, magnificent eucalypt woodlands and pockets of temperate rainforest – all of it a wildlife-lover’s paradise. Visit Lady Julia Percy Island to see one of Australia’s largest fur seal colonies; watch southern right whales and their calves in the waters off Logans Beach; spot tiny penguins dotting the beaches in Twelve Apostles National Marine Park; peer at glow worms lighting the rainforest of Melba Gully; glimpse the prolific platypus in Lake Elizabeth, or gaze up at Great Otway National Park’s towering manna gums to see koalas lolling around. Wallabies, kangaroos, emus, echidnas and snakes roam the area.
