Railroad Alaska: Season 2 Stretching over five hundred miles of wilderness, cutting through dense forest and ploughing into thick snow, lies the Alaska Railroad. We make a return trip through the Last Frontier with a second series of Railroad Alaska, chronicling everyday challenges faced by isolated homesteaders living along Alaska's critical railway. The series follows an elite crew who tirelessly work to keep the train rolling 365 days a year in order to deliver life-sustaining supplies to Americans living off the grid and miles away from civilisation. With dedication, tenacity and a bit of grit, these Alaskans have truly mastered the splendour of living life on the track.

With time running out, the freight crew struggle to make their delivery to a salvage crew stranded in the wilderness and Jim James returns from town with a huge surprise for his wife Nancy.

[edit] Mountain Danger

Offgrid homesteader Dan Mawhinney is in a race to airlift his stranded snow machine out of the frozen tundra. While rookie offgridders Orville and Jackie James face their first winter alone in the wilderness, disaster strikes.

300 miles south of the Arctic Circle, off gridders Cathy and Larry battle freezing temperatures which threaten to leave them without a crucial supply of fresh water. J.T. Evans has come up with an ingenious plan to bring a taste of the tropics to Alaska

[edit] Avalanche Zone

Offgrid, Josh and Annie urgently need to move their cabin away from a rapidly rising river. Ron Hudson and daughter Ashley are racing to replace a leaking roof before a storm hits. On the railroad, an avalanche threatens to derail a mile and a half train.

[edit] The Big Freeze

Jim and Nancy rush to make repairs before the cold Alaskan winter chases them out of their home. Off gridder Dan Mawhinney decides to sell his cabin, but first he must find a buyer. On the railroad, delays threaten to put the train behind schedule.

[edit] Ice Hell

Steve, Cassie, and their baby, face down a threat to their food supply, Dan Mulwhinney must make a grueling 5 hour hike in the wilderness. On the railroad an ice storm threatens to derail the Alaska Railroad's scheduled freight train.

[edit] A Bridge Too Far

A porcupine infestation threatens to leave Nancy and Jim without electricity. Dave Weems' city-living nieces hunt for their own supper. On the railroad, an emergency crew battles blocked bridges to make way for a shipment of valuable military equipment.

[edit] Earthquake

A magnitude-4.2 earthquake threatens to bring the railroad to a standstill and derail a speeding freight train. Steve and Cassie Brosius race to build an emergency shelter to protect their young baby. Dave Weems' nieces visit to sample life in Alaska.

When temperatures rise and breakup hits Alaska, a new set of problems threaten lives on and off the rails. Jim and Nancy journey to an abandoned cabin and discover that a bear has taken up residence. Cathy and Larry are in search of an emergency vehicle.

As spring hits Alaska, it brings new challenges for the offgridders as they scramble to repair their cabins and homesteads. On the railroad, the freight team prepares their most dangerous load of the year, a cargo of explosives.
