[edit] Information

Songshan Shaolin Temple, Henan Province in China, is the world-renowned home of the Shaolin school of kung fu and the birthplace of the Buddhist sect founded by Damo. As famous as it is, the true story of Shaolin Temple is virtually unknown, embellished by countless action movies and comic books over the years. Films, shows and publications that purported to reveal ¡°the real Shaolin martial arts¡± were created by students of the Shaolin discipline, not its monks. This movie brings the real tale of Shaolin to the outside world for the first time, told from the viewpoint of the monks who rule it. To make this documentary video, Gen Takahashi, the producer, concluded an official contract with Songshan Shaolin Temple, Henan Province¡ªthe only such contract ever signed. The film includes never-before-seen footage of Shaolin breathing exercises, one of the keys to this mysterious discipline; and some of the secret techniques of the Shaolin Martial Monks Troupe, the highest authority of the temple.
