[edit] Information

Though Swiss-born, Le Corbusier is known as a French architect, writer, urbanist, and designer, having become a citizen in his 30's and doing to majority of his work as a French citizen. He is best remembered for his pioneering vision and contributions to what is referred to as Modern Architecture by critics, historians and artists alike. His fifty year career produced some of the most iconic structures built all over the world. As an architect, Le Corbusier has designed everything from villas, to the UN Headquarters in New York City. The Complexe du Capitole in Chandigarh (India), the National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo (Japan), the House of Dr Curutchet in La Plata (Argentina) and the Unite d'habitation in Marseille (France) reflect the solutions that the Modern Movement sought to apply during the 20th century to the challenges of inventing new architectural techniques to respond to the needs of society. The controversial architect who radically transformed our cities and towns through modernism and the use of concrete and glass tells the story of his life, beliefs and achievements in his own words, through extensive archive audio recordings, film and photographs. Some criticize his residential buildings, while others praise his purist clarity: Le Corbusier was a Master of concrete and one of the most important architects of the 20th century. Based on interviews and personal writings, this documentary gives an overview of life at the time: the century of world wars, ideologies and totalitarianism. A Film by Juliette Cazanave; Produced by ARTE France, Cineteve, Les Film du Carre, RTBF and INA in Association with RTS and SBS TV Australia
